Default Drive clutch 1989 c/c

Okay I fouled up when taking apart my kf82 rookie mistake I took a pully to the drive clutch popped it right off not knowing it wasn’t gonna pull the whole thing off the crankshaft .....(rebuilt the engine) now that I’ve got it all back together took for test run after when I thought I had it the drive clutch back together correctly I was mistaken it now makes a loud noise I’m guess it’s the weights inside it is the cause anyone have any ideas how to put one back together for sure correctly

Take some compressed air and blow all the junk out of it first. A little brake cleaner will help as well.
Try to rock the weights side to side on the pivot posts, if there's a bunch of play in them replace the weights. Those don't "look" bad, but it's hard to tell without actually seeing them.

Roll the weights all the way in towards the center of the clutch.
The washer goes on the center post of the clutch. Place the worn side facing Out so it matches up with your weights. If you replace the weights, then flip the washer so the Unworn side faces out.

Line up the 3 brown buttons in the outer cover with the slides in the moveable sheave.

Push them together and spin the assembly so the notch in the post lines up with the key notch in the center hole of the outer cover.
Install the clutch retainer bolt and washer.

The buttons (and sometimes the thrust washer and weights) are considered maintenance items that will eventually need to be replaced.
and your worn buttons is where your getting the "clacking noise" from.

The button kit, and the thrust washer are the same part numbers as 92+ clutches,
But the weights have a different part number... (and I'm not sure if that part # is obsolete or not)

Refer to Springbok's exploded view above...

#12 - Button kit - #1014453

https://www.cartpartsplus.com/golf-c...tch-button-kit

#8 - Thrust Washer - #1014058

https://www.cartpartsplus.com/golf-c...-thrust-washer

#15/Detail A - 89 to 91 Drive clutch weight kit - #1014455
(92+ is #1016801)

It's not listed on Cart Parts Plus website, but, a lot their inventory isn't,
I'd suggest calling them on the phone, and ask about it!

Your buttons defiantly need to be replaced! and weight tips look pretty worn also,
I personally would replace all of the parts that I listed,
it's cheaper than replacing the clutch, or having to open it back up in 3 to 5 years.
