What size tires can my cart handle?
I've got an 07 ezgo txt 36v. Stock controller and motor, with speed chip. I run 19mph with my 12 inch tires, low profile tire. I've been considering putting a larger tire on to increase comfort and ride quality and perhaps a few more mph. I have a lift so I'm not concerned about rubbing, just don't want to overwhelm the system.

Re: What size tires can my cart handle?
i had a 03 pds cart with 22" tires and lift. Had slight torque loss but had new batteries and 2ga cables. Did everything i needed. I was going to do controller upgrade this month but lost it in a fire...

Re: What size tires can my cart handle?
If you need the torque, you'll be in a pickle. Do you have hills? Mountains? 4 seats? Pull a trailer? I have big tires on mine, but I'm on lithium with 58v, not just 48 or 36 and I live in a really flat area.
If you do go for a larger tire, make sure it is a high pressure type (Greater than 12 or 13psi) because low pressure tires will just compound the issue. |

Re: What size tires can my cart handle?
Joel, you didn't mention how tall your current tires are other than they are low profile....
but considering the rest of your cart is stock, as far as the drive system.....the tallest tires you should run without harming your drive system (putting to much extra stress on it) are tires that are 20" tall. |

Re: What size tires can my cart handle?
My current tires are about 18". I'm also running a lithium setup, i typically charge to 41v.
I live in a very flat locale and rarely need torque. Sent from my LG-G710 using Tapatalk |

Here's a chart showing the relative Speed gain and Torque loss for tire heights from 17" to 26" in 0.5" increments.
Install an Alltrax XCT48400-PDS or larger when you burn up the stock PDS controller. |

JohnnieB,.
Will i burn up the controller first, or the motor? Or could be either? Sent from my LG-G710 using Tapatalk |

Re: What size tires can my cart handle?
Probably the controller, but could be either or both.
The stock motor can handle a max current of up to about 400A and the stock PDS controller only passes 300A, but the motor spins slower with tall tires and the slower the motor spins, the more amps it can draw, so when turning taller than stock tires stock PDS motors tend to run hot and heat kills motors. In other words, if you run tall tires, plan on replacing both controller and motor eventually. If the controller goes first and you get a user programmable one with more than 400A throughput, turn the output down to 400A until you have a motor that can handle more than 400A. |

Re: What size tires can my cart handle?
When I first bought my cart (03 Txt PDS) I lifted it, put 20" AT tires on it, and added a rear seat. I was constantly over working my factory controller by going on hilly, soft terrain and my controller would occasional go into thermal shutdown. I have since upgraded to a Alltrax Xct500 amp controller and admiral mot b2 motor.
If most of your driving is done on relatively flat, paved roads, you should be ok with 22" tall tires. If majority is done off road with hills (especially at creeping speeds) you may damage your controller with 20" or taller tires. |
