Default HEI issue

Did the conversion on my 86 2pg. Cart runs 100 feet and dies . Turn ignition off and back on an runs another 100 feet. Module mounted to 3/8 aluminum plate with di-electric grease and ground wire installed. Wiring all good . I literally cycle the key off/on and it starts running then dies . Cycle again and same thing. Any help is appreciated.

Well, you're now the second one. https://buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=167796

I still think his is a fuel issue, but I'm open minded about it.

Thanks Cart. Mine is different. I dies and all I have to do is cycle the key on and off and it runs again till it dies . Repeat key cycle and it goes again. Thinking bad module.

Do you have to turn off/on the key? Meaning, will it do the same thing if you just let off the gas pedal enough to kill the ignition then push it again to get spark?

Seems to me it'd be the same thing wouldn't it? Just fishin'

Dabble , just tried what you asked . If I let it die and then hit the gas it will go again sometimes . But if I cycle the key it goes all the time

Gave up . Back to standard ignition and she runs great. Only did the mod to see what I was missing. But now I play with it over the winter because I HAVE to figure it out!!’LOL

Which ignitor did you use? My cart is doing the same thing. When I described lifting/feathering the gas pedal..it was enough to cycle the throttle limit switch. Which would be like turning the key off then on again. I never did turn the ignition off then back on.

I found this web page about ignition modules:

http://gpzweb.s3-website-us-east-1.a...eiModules.html

I used the BWD CBE4 module....from reading the info on the site.. it's a different controller chip.

"0.0v family of 4-pin HEI modules

"This family is the most recent. It may become more wide spread since it is likely microcontroller based, and thus far easier/cheaper to alter/improve the product line. Unfortunately, this ability may actually cause headaches for home enthusiasts attempting to use them for unintended purposes as the manufacturer may alter the module's behavior. This means the end user has no way of knowing if the product on the store shelf behaves the same as one purchased previously."

This text file from the site:

Hei4pinDR100moduleNotes.txt

describes a situation where a module could cause the symptoms we are seeing.

I am going to try an Autozone DR100 to see if that works. It will be a week or so before I can try it. The cart is in northern Michigan and I am in Madison WI at the moment. I will let you know if it works. If it doesn't, I will be going back to the OEM parts.

I'm glad you got yours going.
