LiFePO4 Battery Charger
Before I do something dumb.... Any reason why I couldn't use my EVBatteryCenter charger from my old Nissan Leaf pack (from Nick) on my new set of LiFePO4 batteries?

Re: LiFePO4 Battery Charger
There are a couple of electrical gurus on here that will be able to explain it better.... but to my understanding the charging algorithms inside the chargers are different between Li-on and Li-po
Could you use it? Probably. Would it shut off at the right point? That’s the question. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: LiFePO4 Battery Charger
I'm almost positive Nick used the same kind of charger that can be purchased easily on Amazon now that has a trim pot inside that can be adjusted to lower the final output voltage.
The charger should look like this: https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Char...ithium&sr=8-15 Adjust the finally output voltage using a multimeter with the leads attached to the charger output cable and slightly turn the trim pot within the charger until the final output is where you want it. |

Yeah, that pretty much looks like it. Nick has a sticker\label on it saying 700w\50v\11a, so I'm assuming it can be adjusted. I will crack it open and have a look. |

Re: LiFePO4 Battery Charger
I read this in the Q&A's on Amazon, if it is of any help:
Qyestion: Is there a trimpot to adjust the voltage? I would like it to go down to 56.7v Answer:Sorry, the charger output voltage is not adjustable Question:Will it work with lifepo4 packs? Answer:Thanks for your question, this charger can not charge LiFePO4 battery. |

With that being said, anyone have a lifepo4 charger to recommend? |

Re: LiFePO4 Battery Charger
That is not what that means...
There is no difference in "Algorithms", they both use a CC/CV algorithm. The difference is the final voltage and that answer is because 58v is too high for a LiFePO4 pack. Since there is not an external knob to adjust the voltage, the only reasonable answer from a Seller is "they are not adjustable" since they don't want people opening the box and screwing things up. There are other answers on that same question from folks that changed the voltage without issues. The "UZ-" chargers are not adjustable since a few members here tried. The YL-600 and the UY-600 should adjust. Just make sure the charger is not connected to the pack when you adjust. Post a picture of the inside of the charger so we can see the trim-pot arrangements of your charger. Mark or take a close up picture of the existing trim-pot positions and count the turns in case You adjusted the wrong one and need to put it back. |
