Do I need a Starter/Gen
Well this is the biggest break so far.
Apperantly I am too fat and this happened. The Left side bracket was gone before this I tightened the other two ungodly tight and now.......... Can I get away with something else other than buying a whole new S/G? I can manufacture up the rear two but the front of the S/G of course is Aluminum. Would really like to get this going before next week so will prob be making a custom block of wood as well :) |

Re: Do I need a Starter/Gen
OK what about the brackets? Where can I source them as I talked to a local GC dealer and he said those where the hardest to come by new. (He's fat too.) I guess I can weld the one but the other one that has the slotted hole I never had all the pieces for and i think having it will keep this from happening again.
BTW making a stiffer butt board as I go along too :). |

Re: Do I need a Starter/Gen
Too many twinkies :)
Actually I just had the bolts torqued extremely when I was missing the third bracket that was slotted. Having a longer belt caused the S/G to sit high so the seat would push down on it when i was carrying two people. I have re welded it and got a new S/G cap and a shorter belt and will be putting it together tomorrow but still need that third bracket. I will be hunting salvage yards tomorrow and fabbing something up :). Hopefully I will get her done by the weekend :) |

Re: Do I need a Starter/Gen
I'd better check mine out- I noticed a mark where the GEN was hitting the seat bottom.

BTW had a hiccup with the repair. I got a used S/G cap/bracket but of course it was semi right has they made more than one variation of S/G's so it looked like it would work but the brush inspection holes where offset and the brush assembly shorted out on it. So heads up on this for everyone that a Hitachi S/G has to have a Hitachi cap :). I think I've won a sticky but then again.......... :) |
