Bad vibration/noise from driven clutch at higher speeds..
I'm getting a lot of vibration and noise from the driven clutch.. or at least it sounds like its coming from that area. It seems to lose rpm and power on hills a bit too. What would cause this? Any way to diagnos and verify its the problem? Do I need to replace it or is it possible to rebuild?
The cart is a 2pg marathon, good compression and has a new drive belt. Also, with the rear wheels lifted off the ground, I noticed that only the passenger side wheel spins with throttle. Is that normal? |

Also, with the rear wheels lifted off the ground, I noticed that only the passenger side wheel spins with throttle. Is that normal? yes that is how a deferential works. The clutch may have worn cam""helix shoes"" buttons or a worn bushing. a good cleaning and eye balling is the first step. |

Thanks DOOmsman. I have the clutch off and will take it apart and inspect it tonight.

Re: Bad vibration/noise from driven clutch at higher speeds..
For future reference if anyone's cart is having the same symptoms, it was a bad bushing/collar on the driven clutch shaft. It was worn so much that it wobbled on the shaft under acceleration and wore it down as well. Replaced the driven clutch and she runs great! No noise at all, and lots more speed & hill climbing power.

Re: Bad vibration/noise from driven clutch at higher speeds..
Thats the truth Dave. Seems like I've had to repair, rebuild or replace almost everything on this old cart.
@DOOmsman, thanks again for your help. Now that the driven clutch is working properly, I'm getting a lot more RPMs out of the little 2 stroke. Got me thinking I need to order one of those cheap $12 RPM / hour meters off of ebay since mine doesn't have a governor anymore. |
