If you put 48v to a 36v motor, how long will it last before something burns? Or will it ever?

Good question , I had no idea you could even do this. I'm new to golf carts, and I'm starting my project soon.

lol . . . probably. the whole thing is an addiction! There are some trade-offs I've already realized with this 48v rxv. We will see how this all plays out. Working on the cart is half the fun though....installing lights and camo wrap today on the rxv.... worst case I sell it off and start over on another....

I don't know...I'd do a search or pose the question to the forum

I too have purchased a 96 TXT 36 volt, am just doing research into what to do with my stock cart. Right now it is rigged for the asphalt roads but when run on dirt roads it gets hot and I smell that electrical burn smell. This cart will be used primarily as a dirt road cart. Debating keeping the 36v system and just upgrading controller, switch , cables and putting on a lift.....or go all the way to 48v but the batteries are only 2 years old.

Thanks for this site and appreciate any advice.

That burn smell is probably the mechanical f&r switch attached to the forward/reverse lever. It's a big weak link in a series cart and can leave you stranded. You should upgrade it first.
