1986 EZGO Marathon Resistor Coil Question

Hey guys! Got a few questions regarding my rebuild of my 1986 Marathon.

I need a new resistor coil. Mine is broken in 3 spots. My stock resistor coil is this one CLICK HERE . I am fairly certain it's the original one.

My question is can I go with something like this CLICK HERE instead? This one seems MUCH more sturdy and more "fixable" as the coil breaks into 3 spots and on top of that like $80 cheaper. I would obviously need to construct a housing for it but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Anyone have any experience with this?

My 84 has a coil that looks exactly like the second one. I think you have just found the earlier coil. It is a low maintenance item; I replaced mine when I got the cart 16 years ago and am still using it.

The only question is whether or not we have the same motor. Is it perpendicular to the axle?

It is not. It is the one that is parallel. I actually found the exact motor used at a local golf cart shop on Saturday. The guy sold it to me for $150. I will probably have the busted motor rebuilt by PQ later down the road.
