What is special about an EZGO "ST"?
I am looking at a 2005 ezgo ST gas cart. What makes it different from a regular txt besides that front cowl?

Mechanically nothing except it may have the old style steering with the box mounted to the frame verses the front axle..

So nothing more than a different cowl? Good to know, the guy selling it seems to think it has some premium value because of the "ST" label

Re: What is special about an EZGO "ST"?
It's strange, but after flipping quite a few carts these past years I also have found that the ST style carts tend to sell faster and for more money, even though they aren't any different with the exception of the cowl ... I CAN say that the ST style is my personal favorite, so I have swapped many a TXT cowl for the ST, if You like the style that might be a cheaper option than paying the premium for an actual ST.
That said, some ST Sport's came with the factory lift, 20" Tires, and the 350 engine / 28deg clutch combo like the Workhorse/MPT's, if that's the case then yes, there definitely is a hefty difference in the value - but those are far and few between (and likely partially responsible for the impression that all ST's are inherently more valuable) |

Are there codes to look for to differentiate between the two different engines?

Look on the timing belt cover, there's a sticker that gives the displacement ... Also, on the rear (driven) clutch, there is a number stamped on the transmission side, if it's a "36" it's a standard clutch, the high-torque style will have a "28" stamped on it.

Check the front steering and see if it is new or old style. I believe the true ST carts had the old style, at least the last 2005 ST I saw did..

It turns out this is the smaller of the engines with the old style steering. Nice cart but don't think I can turn a profit at the asking price now of 3600
