Default What is this on my clutch?

I saw this small ring on my drive clutch. Is this remnants of a broken spring?

It's lose and will slide back under the clutch. I can rotate it and I could pull it off if I tried.

I'm pretty sure that is a bushing for the belt to ride on while the driveshaft is spinning but the clutch has not engaged yet. When the clutch engages the surfaces move closer together grabbing the sides of the belt causing the belt to move. When the cart is idling the belt rides on that bushing so the spinning driveshaft does not melt the belt.

If in fact it is the bushing GORNOMAN suggests, do I need to plan to replace the clutch anytime soon?

Mine doesn't have a sleeve or bushing. Not ruling that out but, you could easily pull the clutch and take it apart for inspection and cleaning. Re lube it with graphite.

Yep thanks.... I am going to do that anyway, I just have to make the puller. Does anyone know the exact size of the bolt I need? I have heard 3/4 fine thread, but there are a lot of thread counts considered fine and I have also heard that 3/4 may not be right.

I just measured out an inch on my puller bolt, and counted 16 threads. My cart is an 87.

Thanks.

I put the HP3004 belt on and don't notice a huge difference....it seems to have much more hill power in reverse than in forward, I will check this out on a longer ride.

While I had the belt off I pushed the drive clutch in and it moves in and out easily but there is a little noise I don't like. Can I get the drive clutch off without pulling the motor?

Some people have managed to loosen the mount bolts, and tilt the engine for clutch removal.

I figured that if I'm going that far, it's coming all the way out.

You're going to end up pulling the clutch, and flywheel to replace the crankshaft seals anyways.

On my 89 you can pull the clutch by useing a long 1/2 inch extension. If you look from the side of the cart in front of the rear wheel you can see the clutch.
