Default Replacement muffler for 82 G1

I barbequed my muffler today and now I think it is trashed. The narrow tube that hooks up to the hose broke off from the body, and it has a 2 inch hole in the side. A quick search online showed me that a new one costs roughly 500 dollars, which I cannot afford. Are there any other sources for these or a way to make a custom one? Is there really a way to pay someone to weld these and fix them? I don't know anything about welding personally.

So are the links above for a muffler that works in an 82 or not?

I would think the 82 exhaust would be restrictive and the other years would flow better but I'm just too unfamiliar with 2 strokes to say for sure.

I would think the things that matter would be pipe length and diameter so me I would go for a used one. If anything call or e-mails plowmans and get their opinion. I hear they are great people.

Want to revive this out of curiosity - does anyone know if the plowman fits the ‘82? The exit pipe on my muffler is literally wet with oil. So I’m sure the inside a mess.

Don’t really have anywhere to BBQ it, and the world seems split on the subject.

So short of taking it off and bringing it to a custom exhaust shop and saying, “wanna play a game?” What other options are out there?

Can I just dunk it into a big barrel of degreaser and water or aomerhing?

there is a face book G1 only page and a fellow "de-82ed" his j17.Bascially he swapped over a different top end with carb and intake but said he had to use the 82 muffler as the other year mufflers would not mount properly. something about the pipe being different because of the butterfly vale. I would have thought that difference would be in the collar coming off the jug (longer or shorter mount). But he had a few G1's so I assume he tried a few different combinations.

I wonder if your float bowl is set to high causing some flooding. Does it smoke when running?
