Default Yamaha G1 checking spark with no key switch

Hi guys. I took some time to attempt to find a related post without much luck so I'm very sorry if this has been covered.

I'd like to attempt to see if I can make this G1 run without spending any money on parts. It does not have a key switch right now. Can I just use the wiring on the "generator test sticky"?

you really need the key switch for this, the generator sticky is just testing the starter/generator assembly.

Best option is probably buy a new key and switch then start my journey?

I think so. I think they are $30 ish on ebay right now

I may be able to dig up a used one but cant guarantee it would work and it may not have a key just a switch you could use with a screw driver

Why not simply install a toggle switch. On and off.

Found a local guy with some used parts. He has a switch and key.
I'll try it out and check back. Thanks.

A 3-way toggle switch with neutral (off) in the middle. As simple as that. I've had some 5 G1s passing through my hands and I know how it works.

Check out the the wiring diagram I would not recommend using the toggle it would be a cluster to get it to work and more than likely give you problems in the future it's just as easy as simply hooking up two or three wires

I suppose that would work for testing purposes but, man, I'd hate to rely on a $3 toggle for much more than that.
