Default 1982 g1 crank seals different look different then 1983

I rebuilt my buddies 1983 g1 last spring. Did bearings and seals in the cases. Picked up a 1982 and wanted to change the crank seals on it but the fan side looks different then my buddies. It sets in 1/4" or so. Is this normal. Is it because it's a 1982. Do I just replace it like a normal g1 seal or do I have to drive it in as far as this seal.
