check spark plug. if it hasn't bee replaced in a while it may be due for a new one.

then move on to air filter if its filthy clap it out and get some of that crap out of it otherwise change it if its filthy.

move onto fuel make sure the gas is good, clean out the carb, and if problem persists move onto fuel pump.

check the vacuum line coming from the pump to the engine and make sure its not leaking air cause it will rob you of fuel pressure.

A low battery will make it slow to start what exactly do you mean hesitation when stopping?

My G16 did this but it was usually when my wife was standing outside trying to wave me down to fix something on a Saturday.
