Nope. Once it's running that relay shouldn't have anything to do with anything so that's probably not your issue. Then again, crazier things have happened so if all else fails you can easily bypass that relay just by splicing the white wires together. Everything else can be left as is.

Re: 1982 G1 shuts off when hot...please help!
SOLVED!!!!!! The throttle shaft bushing was completely shot. I made a new one and the problem has disappeared. I have been riding around like crazy trying to get it to shut off again but it hasn't happened. Here's how this works (explained to me by a friend). The carburetor body is aluminum and the throttle shaft is steel. Aluminum tends to expand some when hot, whereas steel doesn't expand nearly as much. When the carburetor body got hot from the engine heat, it allowed a small gap in between the throttle shaft and the bushing to suck air in. This resulted in loss of vacuum which affected the fuel flow inside the carburetor.
So to recap: -I had 110 psi of compression -I had spark -I had fuel pumping to the carb ....but it would not run for more than a few minutes before it would lose power and die. I also replaced my coil thinking it might be shot from thermal overload, but I put the old one back on to rule out the ignition. The old one works just fine so I believe I just had the carburetor issue. Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone with a similar problem. Took me close to a year to figure it out. |

nice! glad to know you got it handled.
On an unrelated side note - that's higher compression for an '82 than i've seen. Recent rebuild? shaved head? just curious. |

It was technically 108 psi. I haven't rebuilt it but I'm not sure what the previous owner did to it. Its runs like crazy now that I got the carburetor fixed.
