Default First post. Cart newbie with G16 project.

Picked up a G16e but looking to convert to gas.

Have some major frame repair to do first though.

Front suspension is hanging on by a thread at this time.

Checking out the forum as I am sure I will have many questions before all is said and done here.

Drilled holes through the steering wheel to use a puller to remove the wheel.

Didn't need puller. Loosen nut (but don't remove), pull wheel while rocking back/forth, wheel will pop (and not hit you in the face if the nut is still on).

Cgtech,

I had previously sprayed it down with PB Blaster and tried rocking side to side up and down and driving it off from the back while putting pressure on the wheel. It was not moving, lol.

I read some folks posts here about how to get it off. Even with the puller cranked with quite a bit of tension hammer from the backside didn't budge it.

I kept cranking the puller until she finally popped loose. I left the nut on the end like was mentioned and it was good thing it shot like a rocket when it broke loose.

Yes Sir I read that article before.

I don't need to put a value on my time. I wouldn't be spending the time spent working on the cart working anyway if that makes sense. It is a hobby project to work on as time permits that will hopefully result in a suitable neighborhood cruiser for me and the kids.

Agree on the donor cart. That would be the general idea. I understand he is for the most part addressing conversions with jack shafts, cut up electric motors, welded on sprockets and no reverse etc.

A guy selling wrench on your cart products aught not be discouraging folks from doing that by suggesting their creation will "probably wont run right" anyway, lol. He is likely right that mine WILL run like crap though :P

Selling this cart that came without batteries or charger and a rusted through frame likely wouldn't buy me lunch let alone a gas cart with a blown motor.

So while I do totally agree with the article I will skip the discouragement and the neglect of mentioning anything about WHY folks want to convert. Namely the oppressive price of batteries vs a motor. The oppressive longevity of the batteries when compared to an engine. Cost vs performance engine vs battery power and, not based upon my own experience but what friends say, don't even bother with a 36v cart if you want to do a back seat/lift/tires etc. which I do.

The search for the donor cart is already underway.

My recommendation... search the sell forum here or Ebay and find a gas rear axle for your cart. It will still take a considerable amount of fab work, but once you swap the axle most of your issues are fixed... clutch, reverse, etc.. you'll need to cut/fab a motor mount on the swingarm and buy the motor of your choice, but saves all the hassle and trouble of trying to make the rear axle work.

And if your motor and rear axle are good for electric, you can probably offset the cost of a gas axle selling your stuff. Much cheaper alternative than finding a donor cart

The "carsandcameras" on youtube guys are converting an ezgo sparky to modded 420 clone currently. They intend to use the electric trans axle. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. That being said I am in no way saying it is a path I would choose.
