Tips on how to remove the gas tank from an '87 G2?
There is a lot of great information on this board and have learned so much reading through it. A few weeks ago I picked up a used 1987 G2. I have ordered the filter - spark plug kit from Carts Plus to do a prelimary tune up.
I would also like to clean out the gas tank figuring it has been sitting for awhile and give it a good clean out. I did a search, but could not find information on how hard it is to pull the gas tank out. It looks like the rear cowl needs to be removed and several other items need to be disconnected ( gas line, CDI electrical connection ) along with a couple of bolts holding in the gas tank on. I guess my real question is, is there anything that I might be overlooking in doing this or any tricks to do this right...? Thanks for any advice, Jim |

When I removed mine,it was pretty simple.Be sure to drain all the fuel out first.lol..It was only 3 bolt's (I think),
disconnect the fuel line's and pull it out. I don't remember anything causing major issue's..Then again,I had the seat and engine removed first..... |

Yep straight forward. When you have it off, unscrew the big knob at the bottom where the fuel line attaches. Theres a fuel filter inside the tank and it's usually deteriorated into a pile of mush. Rip it out and throw it away, a regular in-line fuel filter between the pump and the carb is perfectly fine, and much easier to replace :)
Edit: sorry didnt realize this was a 10 year old thread lol |
