Just for giggles take the cover off the charger and see if it's been jumped. Most people will jump the board out and never say anything to someone. Take 6 screws loose and it will come off. Look inside @ the black cube and see if the two black wires are jumped. Like in the picture.

Okay so back to the original question, how do you check the pack?

With a volt meter and a good temperature correcting hydrometer?

What do I win?

Or I guess you can use the volt meter and trace the cables back from the charging receptacle to the battery pack. One DVM lead to each and you'll have pack voltage. Is this what you are asking?

You can test the bank total voltage at the charge plug socket. If you are making this voltage test right after you finish charging them you are going to get a false reading. You will be reading what is called a "surface charge" and it will be high. In order to get a accurate reading of battery state of charge the batteries need to be "rested" for 8-12 hours after charging. I work mostly with 12v batteries in RV's but you can half the numbers for the 6v batteries. A fully charged flooded lead-acid battery will have a rested voltage of 12.6v to 12.7v. A rested voltage of 12.2v indicates a 50% state of charge. It is not unusual to see voltages over 14v right after charging is finished.

The only thing not mentioned in that otherwise good chart is the need to let the battery bank rest after charging for some time before doing the testing. If you connect a volt meter to a freshly charged bank and leave it there you can watch the voltage drop as the surface charge dissipates. It will take quite a few hours before the voltage will stabilize.

pass side of cart you will have a positive post toward the frt and a neg post in middle. far right 2 terminals. Right is pass side and left is drvs side of cart.

Put pos lead of DVOm on pos term and neg lead on neg terminal. you should read 36 -38 volts.
