How do you know you have a bad battery?
i had a golfcart that would not back up. I replaced the controller, and it resolved that issue. Now when I attempt to go forward or backwards, it begins to go and then dies. Could it be a bad battery? With a bad battery, would it still read 36 volts when sitting still?

Re: How do you know you have a bad battery?
Have you checked the voltages of the batteries individually with a multimeter? If so, please post the readings and we'll try to help.

36 volts is closer to 40 than 50% of capacity. Full is 38.2

Re: How do you know you have a bad battery?
My DCS would shudder when the voltages got low...never checked it with a volt meter, but knew it was time to head for the house.Of coarse this was before I installed a gauge so I could monitor the batteries. Just thought 36 volts sounded low with no load.

Re: How do you know you have a bad battery?
The reason I ask is because I know the answer is yes, it is a DCS cart. DCS carts have one design flaw.
THEY EAT CONTROLLERS IN LOW VOLTAGE SITUATIONS. What you are playing around with now may well be a situation where you can fry your new controller if you do not stop and make sure you have proper voltage ...... |

Re: How do you know you have a bad battery?
ok, all six batteries check in individually at 6.15vdc, 6.13, 6.17, 6.17, 6.19 and 6.20vdc. When I begin to drive it, it goes, then loses power and dies. I read the voltage at B- and B+ and A1, and it reads then .5vdc. when I toggle the tow/run switch, it then goes back to 36vdc at the controller. Incidentally, I was changing the brakes today as well. That does not have a sensor on it by chance, does it and maybe I did something wrong there?

Re: How do you know you have a bad battery?
37.10 volts is that what you got? No no sensors in the brakes? Are all of the cables to the batteries controller and motor in good condition and tight and clean ... ?
