Unhappy Can't get reverse on my Workhorse

Hi all, just wanting some advice on my 2003 ST 350 Workhorse.

I bought 2 of these carts as non working sight unseen, I did see photos of them so I knewwhat was missing and that they were not running. The guy before me did not have them running either and as I am in Australia its had to get help or advice. I have been reading and searching BGW but could not find anything in previous posts or threads.

The problem is I can go forward but not reverse, I tried to adjust the cable with no luck. I tried to manually push the lever down all the way with the cable disconnected and still nothing.

The best I get is like a knocking noise like the gear is trying to lock in but it won't and I am pushing down pretty hard. The only other thing I can think of is the diff guard and the 3 bottom bolts on the bottom of the diff were missing, I replaced them could this have thrown out some internals.

What do you think ?

Hello from the other side of the world,

It could have thrown some things out of their place.
I don't know the cartchassis, i have onley the engine.
But on our Daihatsu Feroza 4x4 you better can't open the wrong bolts on the gearboxes at oilchanging..... because than you have to open the boxes thumbdown:

Open the diff. and look in the manual.

I caught site of a parts diagram for that rear end at some point but I'll be danged if I can find it again. If memory serves, it was a simple configuration and a sliding idler setup for the FW/RV gear change. Might be a bearing is bad or the bushings on the shift fork are gone. I'll keep looking for that diagram.
