92 Yamaha idles, then FLIES!
Hi. I just bought a older ParCar (1992) that has a Yamaha Gas engine. I dont know what year the engine is, but the compression is 130. It starts easily and idles fine but when the pedal is compressed slightly it starts to die. Only when you pull the choke does it run and then Wow! it flies out from under you. So no slow take off, just zero to 60. And that is difficult to control, especially in your garage! When trying to cruise, you have to keep the throttle halfway out to keep it running, otherwise it lunges. Could someone give me some ideas as to what to check?

Remove, disassemble & clean carb. Clean every passage, remove everything.

OK, great. That is a simple task that I can definitely do. As far as you know, did Columbia ever make their carts with a Yamaha engine? Thanks!

I dont think so. Also, be sure the throttle blade returns to closed when pedal is at rest.

Will do.....I just decided to order a new carb for this thru Amazon. Every time I've tried to clean out old carbs I ended up just getting a new one with new gaskets. After all its around 24 years old. Im just so happy the compression is good. Thanks!

Ouch, if its not a genuine yamaha carb (Mikuni).... The OEM carb sometimes a better carb. The main problem with the aftermarket ones is that they are "hit-&-miss", some are good, some are bad. You can spot a fake by misspelled Mikuni, i call 'em "Mik-Oh-No"s.

I don't know for sure but 130 psi of compression seems a bit low.
