Can someone tell me the proper way to test my pickup coil on 1985 G2
I had some backwards wiring on the cart that burnt several ground wires. I have a new harness now, but the black wire on the pickup coil melted the insulation off. How can I test this properly, and if it is fine and working, can I just electric tape the exposed wire?

I guess to simplify my question: If i check the resistance, and the ohms are within range, will it be safe to retape the black wire that connects to the harness, or should i replace thenwire completly

As long as you have fixed the problem then electrical tape will be a good insulator
