g16 smokes
i picked up a g16 that sat for a few years. new gas, runs good, just keeps smoking like a 2-stroke. no knocking, idles o k, any thoughts before i tear it down? what is most common, rings, rings/piston, valve seals, other? what is good/no good size of piston/bore? thanks for any input.

Some of the most common things to check 1st I would do a rebuild on the carb,then drain the oil and refill with only one quart of oil. good luck and have fun.

See if the oil smells like gas. If so, change it, run it for a short while, and change it again. It will take a while burn out what's in the muffler too. More than likely it is a carb issue like campercart suggests: remove the bowl and clean it really well, float is probably not working properly. I'd also clean out the fuel pump.
