The cart that I built here in NY for my mom in Texas ran great while I had it here. I didn't drive it but a couple of times up and down the road in front of the house. The engine was a fresh rebuild with all OEM parts,(Thanks to SMALLBLOCK) and everything replaced. When we got it off the trailer in Texas we got on it and it ran fine down the road and then it would die. It had spark, gas and air. I replaced the coil, carb and I even took the head off to make sure that it didn't blow a head gasket. The valves were set .004 and everything looked great. It drove me nuts for 3 days as to why this thing wouldn't run correct. I narrowed it down to not having enough compression but everything looked good when I took the head off. Once I set the valves at .006 the cart took off and ran like a champ. My mom drives it every day now and calls me all the time on how much she loves it. I would run the cart and check the valve with the cart warm and try to adjust them then. You can start the cart up and run it with the valve cover off. Trust me it will run just fine with just a little oil mess. This is the only cart that I have had to do this with and ive rebuilt a lot of engines for people around me that are running great still.

Camp, Mike is the only one here old enough to yell at all of us. He's old.

Ive also had the same problem that Shepard mentioned on your other thread of a bad wire in the harness. I had a cart that the harness looked like new and I would get spark then no spark. I took the harness out and started taking the loom and tape off and half way down one of the red wires in the harness was broke in 2 and barley touching. put it back together and it fired right up.

G1-G9, I think that is what my problem is, is best to just remove the engine and then go at the wires? They are so easy to remove, is there any harm in running a ground from the coil directly to the battery?

Before I start yelling at you guys for calling me OLD!! ..........
Which "coil" are you talking about?? Yamaha calls every "coil" of wire a "coil"!!

The ONLY COIL as far as I'm concerned , is the ignition coil, and that is the one with the spark plug wire coming out of it!!!

The other 2 are the "crank trigger" and the solenoid!!!

Tommy, I have to take you to task again!! WHAT is that aviator???......
