I also agree a coil is the one with plug wire and boot, crank trigger and CDI, why Yamaha needs to call everything a coil is goofy... LOL.. Is it safe to ground coil directly to a good ground?

If you guys have never done it, there must not be a need to.. I know Don Plowman advised me to run a good ground from the battery to the head.. I did that and still no go.. It is time to do battle with the wiring harness... Thanks

That kind of stuff is above my pay grade !!

But I do know that the ignition works on an open/closed ground!!

And I'm guessing, that 16 gauge ground wire I'm talking about goes to the igniter!!??

I'm not sure about the G9 engine -- on a G2 the coil mounts to the plastic air shroud and has 3 wires the black going to a bolt that mounts it. This is the ground for the coil. You could ground the engine all you want -- if the coil is mounted in plastic it won't help your problem.

That is how G9's mount as well, I am gonna try and ground coil and see what happens, How can you get a good ground going into a plastic shroud with a steel insert? I dont think you can,,, I will let you all know if it helps or melts something... lol
