Medalist just stopped working...
Here is the story on my Medalist which recently stopped running. Perhaps someone can glean something from the description and assist in troubleshooting.
Cart was on charger and took it saturday morning to my deer stand. It ran fine to the stand, but the back left tire was low enough to have a consistent squeak. I found out later it was the knobs on the tire rubbing up against the leaf spring. Yes, I should have taken the 2 minutes to air it up but I didn't. Coming back from the stand, the tire 'blew'. It was low enough that the seal was broken between the tire and wheel so down the tire went. I drove it back very slow to the camp. At camp I parked it, and put it in reverse to park where I needed to. A few minutes later I jumped in to move it and it would not budge. Things I've noticed. Batteries are reading ~38v Lights work Reverse buzzer works I can hear the solenoid 'click'. No movement whatsoever. Ideas? Starting points? |

Re: Medalist just stopped working...
Which drive system and what speed controller are you asking about?

Re: Medalist just stopped working...
Also what is battery voltage when you try to accelerate?

Re: Medalist just stopped working...
A Medalist would either be a series drive or DCS.
With either type, the drive system may have been upgraded to an aftermarket controller. |

Medalist just stopped working...
I’ve started going through the troubleshooting diagram. When I took the cover off the ISC I see this on the motor terminal...looks a bit melted

Re: Medalist just stopped working...
Driving slowly on a flat tire draws a lot of amps and amps flowing through resistance produces heat. The amp flow through all the heavy cables is the same, so there might be heat damage is other places also. F/R switch and solenoid contacts for examples. Hopefully the motor is okay.
The MOSFETs use the M- bus bar for a heat sink, so they most likely have been mighty hot also and that is not encouraging. Suggested shopping list: 1. Complete set of high current cables, 4Ga or thicker. Need 13 for a controller without an A2 terminal, 14 with or just bypass the A2 terminal. 2. Solenoid with at least 200A contacts. Stock is only rated at 85A and is marginal for golf use. More imn needed for hunting cart. 3. Alltrax SR48400 (or higher) user programmable controller. https://www.cartsunlimited.net/alltrax-sr-series--.html -------------- Troubleshooting: Connect DVM between B- and M- terminals. Push pedal just far enough to make solenoid click and you ought to have full battery pack voltage (38.2 when fully charged). If you don't, use the attached schematic with high current circuit highlighted to find the missing voltage. |

Re: Medalist just stopped working...
Since my cart is 36v would I want Alltrax SR36xxx rather than SR48xxx?
