Default Battery mixup 2003 EzGo

Just obtained a 2003 EzGo textron, when I first looked at the batteries I looked like all were 8 volts ( 4 caps), but upon further review I noticed that 2 of the batteries had 3 caps ( 6 volt). The 8 volt are Trojans but not sure what the 6 volts are, they are all painted black. The person I bought it from is not the original owner so he has no clue why they are like that. The charger is was given is a 36 volt and the motor looks like the original(spicer). I'm sure this is no way to operate cart but not sure which way to correct this situation.

In 2003 Ezgo made Series and PDS drive carts. You need to know which one this cart is. If it is series it could run on 48v with 6/8v if you had a 48v charger.
If it is PDS you can not run on 48v without an upgraded motor and a charger.
Either cart will run on 36v. So - first thing to do is to determine which batteries (if any) are good enough to build a new pack around. You can not run a mix of 6 and 8 volt batteries

So, if I decide to go with the route of using the 6 volt batteries and completing the bank for 36 volt, what other component do I need to upgrade. I plan on using cart on mostly level ground at my country home, but there are some hills. I want to put a 5 or 6" lift with 22 or 23" tires on cart. My current motor is a "Spicer" Part # 73124G02 (36volt), Controller is a Curtis (P/N 25864G02) and solenoid is a white-rodgers 5F coil-36 volt. On the other hand what will be needed if I go with the 48 volt system.
