Default Ez go clicks but won’t move.

Ok so a 1997 ez go cart was sent to me after the forward reverse switch (under passenger side of seat) caught fire. I wired up a new one but now the solenoid only clicks. I have 38v on both big post and the hot side of the small post. There is a diode between the two small post, so should I have 38v on the negative side?

The negative side small terminal is connected to B-, which is also where your DVM's negative is connected, so no voltage will be measured there.

The banded end of the diode should be connected to the small terminal with the red wires on it.

Solenoid clicks and cart doesn't move.

Connect your DVM between the controller's B- and M- terminals.
Push pedal just far enough to make solenoid click and you should get full battery pack voltage (38.2 when fully charged).

If you don't there is an open in one of the thick cables, connections or contacts. (Highlighted on attached schematic)

F/R switch is the most likely suspect.

The only time the solenoid clicks is when I turn the key on. When I hit the gas pedal, I don't have any clicking.

The solenoid ought to click only when the pedal is pushed, so you might have a bad pedal switch if it clicks when you turn the switch on.

Attached schematic has solenoid activation circuit highlighted.

However, that wouldn't stop the cart from running, so there is more than one problem.
