Default Controller new here

Just got a 98 36v txt with a lift and tires. Only got it bc I gave practically nothing for the cart and it just needed batteries. But our neighborhood has some hills that the cart doesn’t like much at all. I have been looking around and saw u can do u controller swap for more torque. Question is what all do I need to change and what controller for my year model if that’s the case? Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome,
If you stay @ 36 volts all you need is the controller and a solenoid that can handle the extra amps. Your stock controller is either 275 are 300amp. Depending on brand and model.

If you really want it to climb go to 48 volts but that's a whole nother ball game.
Controller, contactor, batteries charger the works. You could keep the motor though.

Yea I know about the 48v conversation but I really just want a little more torque for going up hills and stuff with the wife and kids is all. Will just a 500amp controller work or do I need more stuff?

I went with a 400 amp Alltrax controller, heavy duty solenoid ordered as a package from Carts Unlimited. I also upgraded to all 2 gauge cables. Made a huge difference.

500amp will be more than enough. Get the cables also for good measure. I would not set the max amps for 500 on the controller for the stock motor. Set it at maybe 450 max.
