What's with the 295 head on a 350? Does that head make it better or is it just what you have available?

150psi to about 200+psi.... It makes a big difference, but it takes a lot of different things to get to run right.

radical is right, it makes some power
the compression on a fresh 350 with a 295 head is around 230lbs.

You guys got me thinking'. When I swap the 350 out of my Workhorse I'm gonna put it in my '93 Marathon. Currently it has a '03 295cc in it. I also have a rebuilt '96 295 head in the cabinet and the original '93 295 engine. Sooo..... what kind of stuff has to be done to make it run? It would be nice to have some more "get-up & go" without going big block.

I think that after I put the heavier valve springs in my cart with my set up that I should be running around 6k+rpms!!! Thats of course having my MSD ignition hooked up to get rid of the factory rev limiter.

Hello Radical,

If you are going over 6000 revs continuously, get a good tach and / or a revlimiter!
Continuously more than 6000 require rod bearings, oil channel modifications, hardened crank, stronger valves prings, bigger carb, other sparkplugs etc.
Mine goes over 9000 and on the engine stand up to 12000.
Often more than 8500 will kill the rods and bearings.
Mine now gets new rods because one is broke.
Its my second engine with new rods.
The first did 300 hours and this one about 80.
The 80 hour engine is watercooled (no fan!) and revs up faster and higher as the aircoled like yours.

If you do not use it for work, so much miles, it will not be a problem.....

Benno
