the exhaust is gutted and has a 1 inch pipe out the back . when i ported it i took quit a bit of material out of the exhaust port. i don't think its a clutch issue i think it is a rev limiter in the ignition like a cut out at a certain rpm . but do you think that the hi perf primary from comet would improve my top end the clutch that is currently on it is the stock comet duster.

the comet will help a lott on the acceleration and will let you idle maybe a bit on the top end. neibour has one on his g16

I could only asume the diameter of the clutch is probably the primary factor in making a golf car go faster. The weights dictate how fast the clutch shifts from low to high gear in a veriable amount of ways. I am speaking from very limited experience here, but a clutch the same diameter as another is going to be the same at full extention, unless one is a larger diameter than the other.

I don't see how to improve on the duster with his motor. It will handle a lot more HP, so unless something else is going on I stay stick with it......

Lady bug, might you be floating the valves at 4200 revs? Did you shim the springs or anything? Tell us what the plug color is.
And thanks Flint! Mike
On edit, when you port, you want your intake to flow more than your exhaust, because hot gas flows easier than gold gas. Again Flint or Dooms here are better than me.

yes when i did the porting i also opened up the intake side in equal amount as the exhaust if not more. when i had a stock engine in my cart only upgrades being torque spring air filter exhaust jet i would still hit the rev limiter. one guy once told me that the only way to remove this rev limiter is to get a programmable msd. but i think ill leave it on there to keep me safe. i don't really think these bottom ends will run long at 5k not to sure though could be wrong. i have posted on my rev limiter on this site before.

I have a G16 and the only mods i have are 22" tires, Torque spring, And I had to replace the clutch from CPP. I will do 23-24 MPH @ 3950 RPM. My belt is 1/8" from the top on the primary. I have no idea on the g8if the ratios are different on the drive and driven but at 4200 you should be going faster I would think. Are you getting any slippage? Be very care full at running that high of a RPM. Be fore i replace my clutch it would not go near the top and I did 4500 RPM once for a very short time. above 4000 it was really out the power band. again this is a G16 but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

The only model I know of that has a rev limiter is the G2. You'll know when it kicks in because it will more or less shutdown the engine for a second or two until it slows down enough for the engine to kick back in. Also, if your cart has a rev limiter, it will not do any good to try and increase the speed of the cart if it will be dependant on rpm's because of the rev limiter. No way to bypass it either that I know of unless possibly swapping out ignition modules with a G9. If your hitting a rev limiter, you'll have to lean more toward high speed gears or something that will not be dependant on an increase of engine rpm's. I hope I said this right.

Hopefully you don't have the rev limiter. Can't stand those things.
