98 YAMAHA G16A will not run

I just purchased 2 1998 Yamaha G16A golf carts (one complete and others parts). I cleaned carb, changed fuel, new spark plug, cleaned fuel pump, and checked all fuel related lines.

2 issues:

#1 When I turn it over, on occasion it will fire but not run. I can see some fuel run through filter but not much. I am getting spark, checked old fashion way by holding and YES, it bit me good! Tried starting fluid, no go.

#2 I cant get the motor to turn over with the gas pedal. I am turning it over at the solenoid. This there a relay or switch that I need to locate and check to get it to start by the pedal?



Now for the 1st time owner questions?

I do not need to run pre-mix in this cart, do I?
and
can you start the cart in neutral (between fwd and rev)?

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated!!!!

Any suggestions?

No you do not run premix its a 4 stroke motor yes you should be able to start it in neutral. Between starting fluid and spark it should fire I would check the compression.

I have built many car but 1st golf cart.

First get yourself a VOM(volt, ohm meter). Check all your switches. Best method is to place your volt meter accross each closing switch. With power on there should be no voltage while the swicth is closed. The other way is to disconnect one side of a switch and place the ohmeter accross it. Check for open and closed readings. IE> "0 ohms closed and infinity open". It sounds your start and run circuit off the main switch might might be the problem. But from what you describe, if compression is ok, its all electrical.
