Would like to fab a lift for 85 G1
Do any of you happen to have some plans or specs or suggestions fo laying out and installing a lift for a 85 G1-the cart is just not nice enough to invest $300+ in a lift kit.
thanks for any help Mark P |

Re: Would like to fab a lift for 85 G1
Here are some plans I lifted off the net someplace. Do not use the plans for the rear shock mount shown on the last page, the dimensions are off. Build extensions like Newbylee did in the last two images, or purchase a set of front shocks for a Honda 400EX off ebay and bolt them right in. They work fine with a 4" lift in the front.

Bring it to the campgrounds and I will get some measurements. Then I can whip up one for you.I have never looked. At a g1 to know how they are on the front.if they are anything like my g9 it wouldn't be hard at all.let me know

Use steel plates in the front..just drop the pivot points done the amount you want to lift it..the hard part is getting the shocks remounted in the right place.. hope this helps

Re: Would like to fab a lift for 85 G1
You usually have to move the front arms forward to fit 22s. Not a bad idea to move them out a little for width especially if you angle the arms some and reweld the spindles like I did. G1 the clutch hits the frame with a lift you have to deal with that, unless you don't go high at all. Otherwise its just lifting the shocks. I made my lift adjustable with multiple shock holes.
This is my G9 but similar. I did this in '99, if I did it again I would drop the arms half the lift and not angle them so much it makes setting the toe difficult. The rear is a piece of 1.25 square up in the hole, .125x2x.5 angles welded on, the inside goes to frame so it can't teeter. Front is a 1.5x3 tube with a piece of .25 plate on the side bolted to frame. The top of tube also bolts into original shock hole. A piece of angle mounts the lights. I moved the arms forward the original mounts and welded new mounts in front of them. Also take a look at the jakes lift, they just extend the front arms down in essence doing just what I did. |

Re: Would like to fab a lift for 85 G1
Hey, I figured I would give you a few more pics to look at, here is my build thread- Latest Project G1 I roughly based my lift on GMB's plan, wound up with 6" of lift, 2 3/4" forward and 2 1/2" out (1 1/4" each side). Hope that helps
