Default Unveiling my G1 project cart. Bought today (7/14/2011)

OK, I wanted a G2 or G9 but I found this G1 in range of my travels and when I saw the price of $250.00 OBO I knew it was in my price range.

As I just found out it is a 1985. Thanks to other posts about where to find the serial number. It was on the Right side rear. (passenger's side)

The motor is not working according to the former owner who works at it's former golf course home. He said the history is that it just kept slowing down until it didn't run. We came to an agreement on $200.00 and it rode home in my pickup. The motor is free and doesn't seem to have any slop.

The former owner is a really great guy to do business with and he is a Cart-a-holic as well. I think they were all Yamahas including the stripped G2 frame.

So, what are my plans for this little lady? I'm thinking lift, new wheels and rubber, replace bad or missing parts, cure what ails the motor, new color, and either a back seat or bed, and maybe a roof.

I'd like to do it with as little expense as possible, but in my area that isn't always possible, so we'll take it one step at a time. Lots to do, and not much money to do it with. (Where have I heard that before?)

As you can see in the last picture I have already taken off the golf bag rack. (Anyone looking for one?)

Gradually slowing just might be clogged muffler, disconnect it and give it a try! Nice find.

I figure the first thing is to get a new battery. The old one looks pretty tired. I know the choke cable needs to be replaced so I'll bypass that for now. Unfortunately as you can see in the pictures the console was trashed, but the switch still works so no problems seeing if the electrics will turn over the motor.

As far as the battery goes, the manual says a Group 24 battery is required. These are the shorter batteries. Would you use the Group 24 or another Group 27 battery (Full Size) like the one that was in the cart? Remember I live in Northern Vermont and I might want to use this in the winter if possible.

All your suggestions are on my current list, thanks.

I went to Walmart and bought their cheapest car battery. 26-5N. it has something like 525 CCA which should be plenty to start it in cold weather. I run my buggies in the winter until the snow gets too deep.

I run the same battery thats in my pick-up. Then I can switch if I ever need a back up.
