help cart died marathon 1994
I checked all batteries, the volt in and out of key, across the solenoid all 36 V. the microswitch on the potentiometer clicks when pressed. what wires do i check on the potentiometer?? checked the white and black one when pedal pressed no voltage. this cart ran fine til i backed it out of driveway then it just died when throttle pressed. Any ideas???

Re: help cart died marathon 1994
checked the solenoid 36 v but the wire that runs to b- from the solenoid shows no voltage at b- terminal. any ideas??

Re: help cart died marathon 1994
B- at the control should have 36v- constantly as it is connected to the battery pack main. The little wire to the solenoid from B- needs to be 36v- all the time also.

Re: help cart died marathon 1994
Sounds like you have a controller type Marathon.
Does the solenoid click (clunk) when pedal is pushed? If not, need to troubleshoot solenoid activation circuit. If so, need to troubleshoot high current circuit. Not sure what the voltage should be on the black and write wires to potentiometer, but if you pull the off controller and connect them to an ohmmeter, you should get close to zero Ohms with pedal up and should smoothly increase to about 5000 Ohms as pedal is slowly depressed to floor. I believe this is a schematic for your cart. |

Re: help cart died marathon 1994
If the negative test lead on your DVM is connected to B- at the battery pack, which it should be for most voltage measurements, you won't read any voltage at B- terminal on controller or the black wire on the solenoid since they are the same point electrically.

Re: help cart died marathon 1994
Troubleshooting-wise, you are on step #2 and the questions asked are about step 6.
The solenoid is not clicking when pedal is pushed, therefore troubleshoot the solenoid activation circuit. Here is a drawing with the solenoid circuit traced. Until you get B+ at the small solenoid terminal with the cathode of the diode connected to it, whether the solenoid is good or bad is a moot point. Since there is a 250 Ohm resistor bridging the two larger solenoid terminals, they will read within about 5V of each other even when the solenoid is de-energized. However, the resistor and the large terminals on the solenoid are in the high current circuit rather than the solenoid activation circuit. |

Re: help cart died marathon 1994
thanks guys figured it out it was loose wire on forward/reverse switch lost the screw out of the microswitch. the only thing now is that the batteries will not hold a charge all the batteries register 6.10-6.30 except only 1 battery it is 5.80. Guess that battery is toast fluid levels are ok. Is my thinking right about that one battery right?

Yes, one bad battery will stop you dead in your tracks.
