Default 36 volt motor rebuild

My motor is getting very hot after short drives. I would like to take the motor apart and replace the brushes and bearing. Is there anything else that needs attention on these motors? Any advice on parts, mods etc? thx M

The Owner's, Parts, and Service manuals are in the stickies. There's a chapter on how to replace the bearing and to check the brushes. Other than that, I don't think there's anything else you can do except to clean out the graphite dust from the brushes.

the brushes and the bearings is the only "servicable" part you can do. I usually replace the brushes, bearing, and then blow the heck out of it with compressed air to clean all the dust/dirt out. I also take a scotch brite pad and hit the area where the brushes ride. just to clean them up a bit. nothign tooo aggressive.

I don't know the weight, but it's "relatively" light. One person easily.

I would say its light. its prob 10lbs or so.

to help me remove i put a strap around the motor (makes a handle), remove the 3 bolts and pull it out the top thru the cover. If you have a rear seat, than pull it out the bottom.

Use 2 wrenches for the terminal nuts. If you twist a motor terinal too much you can break it and then you'll need to have it repaired. Best to soak the nuts down with some sort of wd-40 or what-not before.
