Default gas or electric? best coice

So... my wife and I are trying to decide on a cart. Here is the situation, we're retired and spend winter in a coastal village in Mexico. Salt air and corrosive. I bought a gas cart to buzz around town and go to the local surf spots, but it's lifted, big tires, v twin etc. My wife hates it, says it looks like one those things you drive over rows of old trucks. She wants me to get her a stock one like the old one we had. I can't seem to find a gas one and wonder if electric would be as good. Our old Yami gas one was trouble free, and used less than ten gallons of fuel a season. I'm wondering how the electric would hold up in that environment and cost to operate over say four years. How much maintenance is involved?
Thanks
