Default Downhill in reverse - is this OK?

36 volt cart, beast motor, 600 AMP controller.

I have a very steep driveway (about 1/4 mile long) and my cart doesn't have good enough brakes to keep it under control. Someone suggested putting the cart in reverse before starting down the hill. Is this a good/bad idea?

I'd say its a bad idea... The best/safest thing to to is fix your brakes.. Why? Because if your brakes aren't good enough to keep it under control why are you driving it in the first place?.

Actually the brakes are fine but the road is not paved and when you apply brakes the wheels lock up and the cart continues to slide down the hill. If I can get some "low gear" effect then I could keep it under control.

screw that, point it nose down and punch it. It could be the best part of the days ride or the last ride of the day.

slap that someone !! not only bad idea but you could do serious damage to motor , axle, differential , gears ... etc !! anyway to zig zag down the hill ? pump the brakes ? drive on the grass ? i've hear of 4 wheel disk brakes but don't know if they would fit on your cart

Those sure look nice, might just have to take that plunge! These carts are almost as bad as boats...
