Belt Slipping/Squealing
I have a 1990 Marathon 2 stroke (3pg) and the belt squeals upon take-off, and the cart doesn't have much power on hills or otherwise. I have seen many shorter belts recommended in the forum and not sure which one to use. My belt I have now is Dayco 27077-Go2. I don't wanna put a shorter belt on if the problem is just my belt is worn out, but I would like the extra torque for hills if a shorter belt will help. Any input?

Re: Belt Slipping/Squealing
Check your secondary clutch. The belt should be at the top when you take off and go to the bottom the higher it revs. If it does not start at the top, or instantly goes to the bottom when under load, You will have to do some clutch work.

Re: Belt Slipping/Squealing
AHHHHH...Nice info bro, Thanks! My belt is not sitting on top while not under load. When under load it slides to the bottom but when off the pedal it does not return to top of the pulley. This is great info. Thanks again!

Re: Belt Slipping/Squealing
looks like your driven clutch is stuck. 1 way to trest is put the rear of the kart on jack stands and rev it up. That clutch should open up when reved up and close back up when you let off, bringing the belt all the way to the top. Theres a couple vid's on nhere showing the operation of a proper working clutch

Re: Belt Slipping/Squealing
Yes, i did that test and the clutch opens as it revs up allowing the belt to sink down but when let off the gas it closes, but not all the way, or not enough so the belt rises to the top of the clutch. Any way to open the clutch up and clean it or needs new springs or something?

Re: Belt Slipping/Squealing
I know you can open up some of the ezgo clutches. Be careful, the spring is pretty strong and they are under rotational tension as well to keep them against the ramps.

Re: Belt Slipping/Squealing
Finally got the driven clutch removed, gonna need to buy more PB Blaster. So I see some things in the clutch that don't look good, so I wanted to post some pics and maybe yall can tell me what is going on. Most notably, there are signs of wear on the dust cover which i don't think should be there, and the spring is cut maybe? I don't know for sure but I think there are 2 springs in there. Also the spring is bent so it doesn't stand straight up and down. The ramps show wear but I don't know how they should look either.
