Default Street Legal in Maryland - anyone successful?

I'm trying to get my 2002 EZGO TXT registered as an LSV in Maryland. I spent an afternoon at the Maryland MVA yesterday and thought I might have found a sympathetic soul over there but I don't think I did in the long run based on his latest email to me this morning.

There is a Maryland form for this (http://www.mva.maryland.gov/Resources/VR-324.pdf) but as part of the notes for the form it specifically says "golf carts are not LSVs". I've done nearly everything to the cart in terms of speed and safety to make it qualify but in the end it's probably going to still be viewed as a golf cart although I didn't call it one on the Maryland LSV application and the Certificate of Origin from EZGO doesn't specifically call it one either.

Maryland does have provisions for homebuilts, etc so perhaps I'll follow this route: http://www.mva.maryland.gov/About-MV.../27300-31T.htm

Before I get too carried away, has anyone successfully accomplished this in Maryland?

Thanks,

Pat Arnold

Tn. says the same thing about golf carts, but after you convert it to a LSV or in my case MSV they consider it a Med. speed Vehicle. I was the first in my county to do this so no one new anything about it. Well after 8 or 9 months I now have a 2001 G-20 Yamaha that has a MSV tag on it with a Tn. title that uses the Yamaha vin. # or serial # which ever you want to call it.
All I had to start with was a bill of sell and a golf cart. I did have to show copy's of all paper work of the things I spent on the cart for tax purposes. Hope all works out well for you, don't give up if you really want it.

I would think the latter would work for you.

How do I title a reconstructed vehicle?

A reconstructed vehicle is a vehicle that is created by the unique alteration of a standard vehicle, by someone other than the manufacturer.

Be sure you have a bill of sale and receipts for proof of mods/"reconstruction" - Good luck with it - rollin out on the street is the best!

Pursuing the reconstructed option here in Maryland seems to make sense. I wrote to the guy at the MVA who I met w/ the other day. He seemed to want to work with me --we'll see. In this case it would seem I would have to convince him of a "reconstructed LSV". Makes logical sense to me.

I'll post my progress...

Thanks,

Pat Arnold

Any update on this? I know it is a 5 year old thread but I was curious if you were successful in getting a lsv registration for Maryland. Thanks
