Re: ST 350 Workhorse '01
Ok so no to the running when jumped. The two different colored plugs points me back to possible water in the system. If you have some starting fluid or carb cleaner, spray that in the intake while turning over and see if it spins up. If yes, try it afew more times and if there is some water, it may clear.

Re: ST 350 Workhorse '01
update: I drained the gas (siphon) and carb bowl. No improvement. I even had a fuel pump (Mikuni used to replace the old pressure tank for a '58 10 hp twin cylinder Johnson SeaHoss outboard I'm working on) and I stuck it in there to see if there was improvement. Performed the same. Beginning to believe more and more it is the coil although it doesn't make complete sense. It cranks up fairly easily. It won't move as it struggles to build rpm''s. It will take to where you need to go but at low performance. Every so often it "surges" feeling like it wants to go. let off the gas and it spits and sputters to regain rpm's. I ill-advisedly tried to check spark with a multimeter. Think I might have blown the MM up. Should have just put a plug in and stuck it on the engine and looked for spark. May have to pull carb but I really didn't want to go there.

Pull a plug wire loose and try it, then pull the other. If one doesn't, change that plug with another one, same result, probably wire or boot or coil

Also check your fuel filter. Maybe dirty or clogged.

Re: ST 350 Workhorse '01
Checked the spark using an old spark plug. Kinda hard to do by myself, but, it appears that I got consisten spark from the passenger side spark plug and inconsistent fire from the driver's side plug. Guess it is the coil. Or, could it be some other culprit?

Re: ST 350 Workhorse '01
This may sound dumb but make sure the plug wire hasn't pulled partially out of the boot. Sometimes when pulling the boot I have seen the wire slide down the angle in the boot so your not getting a good connection on the top of the plug. As for the coil I think some of those may have had replaceable wires so make sure that is tight as well.
