Default Will my 81 3 wheel Marathon be dangerously fast W/O the gov?

We will be using it as a neighborhood vehicle on the street. I am just getting it going and have not tried it yet so have no idea how fast these things will go. The governer is not connected and is in need of parts and repair. Should I get it working and hook it up for safety?

So does adjusted all the way out still limit the throttle any at all? My complete governor assembly is removed.

Govenors removed will not give you a hot rod but will give better top end for sure. You will not suddenly be thrown into a dragster however. only a 9 HP or so engine. My 90 marathon goes faster and seems to still be gaining speed after I reach the speed I am comfortable with. I still have the govenor on it but have tighted it up so it really will not work like the origional slow you down to golf speed.
Fast speeds on a three wheeler may not be the best idea unless you have forgotten what happens when you turn your tricycle to fast at a corner...I think I still have scares from that......

Thanks for the good info, we will be driving on the street and there are some hills so I think it is best to make the governor functional. After studying it a bit realize I need a new dust cover for the driven clutch for the governor to work, the old one is shreaded with just a piece of it left with the top peeled off.
