Smile marathon gas oil injection pump

need some advise on this injection oil pump on 89 marathon. Its working fine but have heard horrible things about these pumps. If I continue to run on the pump it seems I will only know when it malfunctions when the engine stops running or seizes up. I hear some disconnect it and mix their oil with the fuel. What do most people do on these old 2 cycle engines.

Get rid of it all together and mix your fuel. I think most will say the same. I've seen a few that say they still use it because it works, but not many. I recently inherited a cart and that was the first thing I did. Reason being, it also had a junk top end. I suspect the reason was a bad mix for whatever reason. So I also rebuilt the top end at the same time. Book says to mix 1 ounce oil with each gallon of regular gas. I've learned a lot in the couple of weeks of taking care of this old girl. Mine is an 1987 two stroker by the way.

morgan44, many thanks for your feed back. I get worried when their is nothing to let you know bad stuff is happening until its too late, and it makes sense to me to mix the oil to fuel. I just did not know how reliable these pumps are after all it is a 1989 that's a lot of years on a pump.

Yep,unhook it,plug the line at the carb, and mix your fuel 128:1(1oz/ gal.).If you run hard and have the governor unhooked, run it 100:1(1-1/2oz. /gal.).Hope this helps.
