Maybe the battery is dead from all of that turning.
I had my head milled .015" to increase compression, but I really couldn't say if it did anything because it never ran good before I had that done. I don't have anything to compare it to. |

Just got my 87 back from the shop with exactly the same issues. Fuel pump pumping, spark was good but would start or run. They replaced a bad crank seal and all is good. Was not pulling gas into the engine as described earlier. Supposedly this is a common problem. I do remember the engine backfiring bad before it quit running so that's probably what blew the seal. good luck!

I have an 84 same engine. The pulser coil was bad had same type of run problem as you describe. You sure your getting good spark? The starter gen. will work well enough to back up, I've ran mine 12ft. or more. The problem with engine swap is whether or not the replacement engine has a problem with turning over backwards.
