Re: Ethanol fuel
Quote:
Once the ethanol has absorbed its limits and is saturated, the "sludge" falls out of suspension and ends up at the bottom of the tank, around the pickup. This is called phase separation. The engine will not run or runs poorly if at all. Its hard to stop or even slow this absorption, but the right additive can help keep phase separation from occurring, thus allowing the it all to be passed through the fuel system. The current mode of thinking is to store these toys with as little fuel in the tank as possible. This minimizes the amount of moisture that can be absorbed. The next issue with ethanol is its corrosive nature towards the rubber and plastics in older fuel system. These fuel systems where not built with products designed to resist the effects of ethanol. Over time, the rubber hoses will deteriorate from the inside out. Other plastics and rubber that are in contact with the ethanol blended fuel, will degrade. Newer fuel system are made with ethanol resistant components. |

Re: Ethanol fuel
Just purchased my first container of the Star-Tron additive so my trial begins.
I will use this in one of my personal vehicles and in all the fuel that leaves my home shop and put into small equipment. I have been purchasing the pure gas at .50 cents more a gallon, it is at 3.79 with a 90 octane rating, as of todays check on prices, and now will step back to the Plus sold at Shell for 3.24 a gallon and 89 octane rating. The Star-Tron I purchased was a pint container to treat 48 gallons at a cost of 7.99. The guy at Advanced Auto seamed well educated on this product and had all good things to say about it's use. I will be purchasing 550 gallons of gas and 500 gallons of Diesel on Jan 8 and will have pre ordered the adequate size containers of treatment for that fuel as well. My shop equipment now shows a steem out the exhaust in the early mornings on colder days so I will be watching that as well as water seperators on the bulk tanks and on the equipment. The Star Bright websight has very good information on the Star-Tron product so if anyone wants to do some late night reading and video watching check it out. http://mystarbrite.com/startron/ If all goes as planed, An old dog will learn a new trick . |
