Sluggish motor start
When I depress and hold down the gas pedal on my 2007 Precedent gas cart it does nothing for 2 to 10 seconds then starts and goes. Sometimes it goes right away. I don't know what the mechanism is for starting the cart.
Thanks! |

Is the starter belt turning when you press down the pedal? If so, you have a bad belt.

Re: Sluggish motor start
Put the cart in maintenance mode and as mentioned above, see if the belt is slipping when you push the gas pedal.

Re: Sluggish motor start
The motor is silent and starts after a delay after pressing and holding the accelerator down.. The belt cannot slip if the motor is not turning.

Re: Sluggish motor start
Yes it can. Your starter/generator (an electric motor) is what turns your gas motor over and ultimately starts it. The two are connected by a single v-belt. If that v-belt is loose or worn out, the electric motor pulley may be spinning but not turning the belt or the motor right away until it catches.
Put the cart in maintenance mode by pulling out and turning the small, spring-loaded yellow cam on the back side of the shifter 180 degrees. This will allow you to run the motor in neutral so you can see what's happening. Here's the maintenance mode cam: If your starter/generator isn't even spinning its pulley right off the bat, then you'll need to check your electrical connections. |

Re: Sluggish motor start
I put it in maintenance mode and held down the accelerator. The electric motor belt is tight and nothing happened for a few seconds then a click and the electric motor turned the motor and starts. Sometimes there is a delay and sometimes there is no delay. What electrical connections should I look at to get to the bottom of this hesitation?

Re: Sluggish motor start
It sounds like a sticky solenoid. Do you hear a "click" when you hit the gas every time? Or is there not sound at all until it fires up?

Re: Sluggish motor start
Instead of hitting the gas, try putting a screwdriver across the two large posts of the solenoid. If it fires up every time with no delay, it's probably a bad solenoid.

Re: Sluggish motor start
Check for brush sticking in holder orweak brush contact on the commutator and also if the starter is full of carbon and dust it will be sluggish. Club car starter are often sluggish.
