Default Batteries too full

Hey all...

Bought a used cart last week and working on getting it up to snuff. Upon opening the batteries, it seems the previous owner decided to completely top them off with water. I know that they shouldn't be much higher than 1/4" above the plates so I'm wondering if I should remove some. If so, what is the best/safest way to do that? TIA.

No, no, no do not under any circumstances remove battery fluid. If you do you are removing acid that cannot be replaced and will only dilute the specific ratio the manufacture put into it.

If it is not spilling, don't do anything until they need water again. If your charger as an Equalize setting, running it will gas the batteries and burn off some water while leaving the acid in.

Just curious sunking. What golf cart battery charger has a equalization setting on it?

Equalization charge happens with my particular Powerdrive Charger if the cart has been charged fully - then sits for a while without moving - then is plugged in again. The charger (in my case at least) skips the self-test sequence - and begins charging with (what I am told is) an equalize charge.

But that wasn't exactly your question - I guess this could be called an equalization "procedure".

A 4-Stage charger like I use a IOTA DLS 54-13.

There are a few others out there I know of Schauer who make 3-Stage chargers with EQ. They stay hooked up whenever golf cart is parked. It will charge them quick, then hold on Float. They make them for any Cart Plug. Basically the same things do with their battery plants and renewable folks use to keep up their batteries.
