Headlight Voltage Question
I blew the last set and am going to install a new set once they come in at the end of the week. I returned the voltage reducer and am going to connect directly to two batteries, but have a question on the voltage.
The closest I can get on the batteries using the multimeter is 13.5V. Is this going to blow my new set or will 13.5V be fine for the headlight/taillights? Thanks! |

Re: Headlight Voltage Question
That's close enough for the light kit to not care one bit.... But it is not the best thing for your batteries to be subjected to an unequal draw; anytime you use the lights you will be drawing those 2 battery down further than the rest which is hard on them. Then when you charge your batteries the rest of the pack must endure the extended charge it will take to bring those two back to the same charge. Thus the unbalance ends up being hard on all your batteries. Is this what you want?

Re: Headlight Voltage Question
It is not preferred for sure. I am going to get a new reducer at some point as the first one was faulty. My first experience in customizing my cart has not gone so well to say the least.

Re: Headlight Voltage Question
I know it stinks but switch the batts every couple weeks till you get a reducer

Re: Headlight Voltage Question
Unless you use the lights a lot all the time I don't think you will notice the imbalanced load on the batteries. I assume that if you are getting 13.5V across two of them that they are 6V batteries and not 8V batteries. That is the voltage that the lights are designed for. (two 8V batteries will produce too much voltage and will greatly shorten the lamp life)

Re: Headlight Voltage Question
Or, you could reduce the wear on your batteries, cut the costs of a reducer and put a small glass mat style motorcycle battery in the cart. A dedicated battery ends a lot of complications and gives you a single source to runs most accessories. I run my primary lights, my LED "show lights" and my Aauuga horn. I haven't seriously looked into a stereo yet, but I don't see it as a problem for the same battery.
I'm betting you have a 12 volt charger somewhere around the house. |

Re: Headlight Voltage Question
Where'd you get the horn? I've been looking but don't know which one to get.

Harbor Freight. One of the few things, from them, that I have been satisfied with
