Exclamation 1983 EZGO rarely start?? Need help....

Hey guys! I decided to join the forum as I just got a 83 EZGO, gas powered 2 cycle.

I cant get the thing to start! It was running all last year no problems. Here is what ive done. New gas, new spark plug (Does has a spark), new carburator. The full pump is pumping fuel as it should. Am I missing something?

Any ideas why this wont turn over? It has started a couple times this year, i drove it maybe 50 feet or so but once it shuts down, will not start up again...

Is it possible the starter/generator is shot?

My next step is going to be to check the starter and battery with a volt meter while its running and see what it draws..

Thanks in advance!

So I tested battery lastnight, it reads 12.5v while just sitting, when I try and start machine it drops to between 11.2v & 11.4v.....

Does the engine spin and not start, or does it not spin at all?

Haha thanks for the reply. The starter/generator runs. Whether it is putting out enough torque to start it I'm not sure... I'm fairly mechanically inclined but I'm running out of ideas. I found the service manual online which gives me a few more things to check with the electrical as well. If pictures/video would help I can do as needed...

I'm leaving for work soon, but can watch a video in the morning. Sound is important when troubleshooting.

That is a good fast spin. There is nothing wrong with your starter, or the starting circuit.

I looked at a couple of wiring diagrams. That black wire may belong on the voltage regulator, but I'm not 100% sure. You have spark, so it's not a problem right now.

I'm a big fan of doing a compression check. It almost seemed like it was spinning too fast with no resistance.

I would also check the crankshaft seals, and fuel pump diaphragms.

125 psi is great.

You already changed the carburetor, so that leaves checking the diaphragms in the fuel pump, and the crankshaft seals.

I did notice in the video that your oil injection has already been removed. That's good.

You didn't pull the choke when trying to start it. What happens when you do?

Your first post says that you just got the cart, but you also say that it ran good last year. What's the story on the cart? Did you get it from somebody that you know, or a stranger that said it ran good?
