Installed turn signals and head and tail lights flash
I already had headlights, tail lights and brake lights hooked up but I want to get a tag for my cart and I hard wired turn signals according to this schematic. For some reason when I move turn signal left or right the headlights and tail lights flash too. Any ideas what is going on? I have the LED flasher installed obviously because my tail lights are led, so are my headlights but they are not directly connected to any of the turn signal wires.
edit...I didnt purchase the complete light kit, I just got the turn signal and hard wired it to my existing lights that are connected exactly like the schematic shows...but maybe it isnt? |

Re: Installed turn signals and head and tail lights flash
This diagram shows 10 wires going to the turn signals. Does your unit have 10 wires? Or 8?

It has 10... the red and blue which is P7 in the diagram are tied together coming off of the relay and I have that spliced to a 12V source. The wire count matches the diagram

Re: Installed turn signals and head and tail lights flash
Since You wired the Turn signal switch to an already functioning circuit, make sure that You did not cross-connect the wires in the rear taillight assembly.
The wires that You connected to the rear taillights turn signal, should be connected to the "brake" light circuit, and not the "running lights" circuit. Turn Your Headlights ON and see which wire gets power on the taillights, then step on the brake and see which wire gets power. The turn signal (P2 and P4) needs to be connected to the wire that gets power only when the brake lights are ON. Did You move the brake light power from the pedal switch that used to go directly to the harness so it now only goes to P3? |

Re: Installed turn signals and head and tail lights flash
My front headlights were factory wired but I ran rear tails off the blue wire from the front. I was confused when I hooked it up because I didnt know which wire was running lights and which was brake/turn. I dont have the cart in front of me now but it has black, white and red. I may have those wires backward which is causing the positive to feed to the headlights when the turn signal is engaged. I didnt disconnect the power to brake switch yet because I wanted to try the signals and make sure they worked before I disconnected it. However that would only affect the brake and not the turn signals for testing purposes but yes once I can figure out where I went wrong I know that needs to be switched too.

Re: Installed turn signals and head and tail lights flash
You really have to re-do that wiring to the back.
Keep in mind that the existing brake switch only has one power output, so both, left and right, rear brake lights are connected together making it impossible for you to use them individually as turn signals. You most likely connected the turn signal to the wire that gets power when the Headlight are ON, since that power is common to all running lights, they all blink. |

Re: Installed turn signals and head and tail lights flash
Ok you are right...I have to disconnect the bridge between the brake switch and lights. So the wire I need to connect the turn signals to now is the one for the brake light and your right thats probably reversed with the regular running lights. I will have to check when i get home. Thanks
